One person died Monday in Gage County, Nebraska when a loaded coal train struck a combine harvester southeast of Firth.The Nebraska State Patrol did not release the identity of operator of the combine killed in the crash.Investigators say the train struck the combine west of the intersection of South 110th Street and East Apple Road around Noon. A Google Earth image recorded in July 2023 showed the railroad crossing is marked with a stop sign but there were no lighted signals there.The Gage County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol are investigating.The railroad crossing was closed most of Monday following the crash.

BEATRICE, Neb. —

One person died Monday in Gage County, Nebraska when a loaded coal train struck a combine harvester southeast of Firth.

The Nebraska State Patrol did not release the identity of operator of the combine killed in the crash.

Investigators say the train struck the combine west of the intersection of South 110th Street and East Apple Road around Noon. A Google Earth image recorded in July 2023 showed the railroad crossing is marked with a stop sign but there were no lighted signals there.

The Gage County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol are investigating.
