Combine-train collision claims operator’s life in Gage County

A collision between a combine and a coal train occurred near Firth in Gage County on Monday, resulting in the loss of the combine operator’s life.

The incident took place at approximately 12:00 p.m. at a railroad crossing near the intersection of S 110th Street and E Apple Road, southeast of Firth. An eastbound combine crossed the railroad tracks in front of a southbound coal train.

The combine operator was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are withholding the operator’s identity until their family has been notified.
